His-Kingdom-Come Featured Artist: I AM A CHILD OF GOD. Videos and Printable.
Hello!
It's been awhile! The long winter is over here in Alaska and I've been enjoying warmth and sunshine, spending time on the computer just has to wait!
But I have a treat for you today! I am honored to be one of the featured artist for His-Kingdom-Come! This is a wonderful group that has loads of bible art journaling, devotionals and other projects. I am one of the many who have and are contributing to the year-long Take Me Deeper group (scroll down for the featured bible art journaling and bonus project).
The verses I have chosen for this is John 1:12-13
"But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor the will of man, but of God." (ESV)
How wonderful is that? We often know that we are "born-again" but do we really understand that God Himself has declared that we are now HIS children, born of Him, when we accept Christ?
DNA is often used to prove who our parents are. Since we are now God's very own children, born of Him, I like to image that we could see Christ's DNA grafted into ours, if we were able to view it through a spiritual microscope. The Jesus Fish fits perfectly into our existing DNA! I hope you enjoy watching me art journal this in my Crossway ESV Single Column Journaling bible.
I printed my certificate at 5x7. It is important to know that the foils only work with LASER OR COPIER prints. It does NOT work with inkjet printing.
I hope you have enjoyed these videos! God bless!
Come and join the faithart journey at His Kingdom Come! FREE weekly devotions, faithart inspirations, technique videos, faithart classes- combining techniques and bible study! Here is a description of the DNA:Take me Deeper group at His Kingdom Come (even more HKC info at the end of the blog!!)
Take Me Deeper™ is a free weekly journey at His Kingdom Come beginning Friday, January 2 2015. Take Me Deeper™ will be a weekly devotional and verse that will prompt us to spending time in His word. It is about each of us encouraging, sharing and studying the word.
Each week you will get the opportunity to translate bible study into art- mixed media, a journal, a photograph, or a digital page, poem, music. Every Friday HKC will post a verse, devotional, worship video and examples of how we interpreted the bible study in our art. We pray that these 52 weeks will change how you approach, engage and apply God’s word in your life and art. At the end of the year regardless of how many weeks your participated, you will have created a legacy of the faith walk. This legacy will show you how God has moved in your life!
Don't forget to join the FACEBOOK group we have for TMD (we also discuss Logos365 in that Facebook group as well).
The theme for today's I AM statement is: I AM A Child Of God.
The verses I have chosen for this is John 1:12-13

*These are the brands I have used in this video but please use whatever supplies you have!
TriArt Clear Gesso (available on Amazon)
Copic Multiliner SP Pen (available at Jetpens.come)
Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils
Schmincke watercolor paints
I have also created a bonus project! Since God has declared we are His very own children, I thought it would be fun to make a birth certificate which God has declared us as His child! Click on the photo to download the certificate or make one with your own wording. It would be fun to include the day you were saved, the day you became a child of God, if you know the date. (I don't know the date when I truly gave my life to Christ, so no date on mine).
Supplies used:
Laser printer ( I have an inexpensive Canon printer, approximately $60)
**You can also use a copier but not inkjet! It must be a copy made with toner for the foil to stick
iCraft Deco Foil
tan colored copy paper
Copic Multiliner Sp pen
Double-sided tape
I printed my certificate at 5x7. It is important to know that the foils only work with LASER OR COPIER prints. It does NOT work with inkjet printing.

Oh, my poor, neglected blog!!
The only excuse I have for neglecting this blog is that I don't get on my computer much anymore, I am mostly on my tablet which won't cooperate with Blogger. I need to commit to paying more attention!
The long, dark winter is almost over, the daylight is quickly returning and working it's way up to 24 hours per day of daylight. It is soooo nice to have the daylight back!
So what have I been up to? I have been doing a few Periscopes. Some of them are bible/belief based and are basically on what I am learning as I seek a deep, personal and powerful relationship with Christ. I am digging into the bible and prayer, as well as christian books, but the focus is truly learning for myself what the Bible/God/Holy Spirit have to say about things rather than just relying on what I heard from others. I've asked myself, "Why do I believe what I believe"? If the answer is because I heard someone say it or teach it, then I know I need to go to God's Word and find out for myself what He says. God showed me that I can't base my faith or beliefs on what someone else says. It must be based on what HE says. If I don't read the bible, then I won't know if someone is teaching His word correctly. I can't base my salvation, my faith, on other people. That is a false foundation that will crumble quickly when trials and hard times come. A solid foundation is built on the Word of God, directly from His Word, not the word of people. Also, faith comes by hearing (reading) the Word of God for ourselves. Teaching are very important, but they should not ever become more important than actually reading God's Word.
This has been life changing for me. There just isn't anything that measures up to a personal relationship with Christ. Nothing. One of the most wonderful things I've learned is that God our father truly accepts us, all our ugliness and shameful things, and is so loving when we are totally honest and bring it all to him truthfully and honestly. He isn't shocked, disgusted and He does not turn from us and reject us. After all, He already knows all about it, it's US who doesn't want to face it. But when we do face it in absolute honesty and bring it to Him, that is when He changes us, makes us aware of His forgiveness and also when we are falling back into that same ickiness so we can choose to stop - as the Word says - He gives us a way out of temptation.
Other wonderful news is my beloved hubby and I just celebrated our 17th Wedding Anniversary! My husband is a true gift from God!
I have also had one of my bible art journalings published in an amazing Canadian scrapbooking magazine. I will write of a post on this later.
I would like to invite you all to join His-Kingdom-Come.com group, which has free bible creative prompts, videos, devotions, art supplies, and lots of wonderful things. It is a ning site but it is free. I am one many amazing guest Artists and will have a video on their site in June. Hurray! Check it out, it's a great group! There is also a facebook group.
Happy Spring!

Periscope Video: My Thoughts on Healing.
I did a Periscope webcast today. I'm not the best speaker but I hope it makes sense. I know not everyone will agree but I do hope everyone at least gets into the bible so they can make their decisions based in God's Word rather than relying on what they have heard from other people.

Addition to My Prayer Journal: Communion
I hope everyone had a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving!
My husband and I had a quite Thanksgiving day because I had a medical procedure the day before which left me wrung out and rather than going to my daughter's home almost an hour away and feeling less than spunky, a day of rest was needed.
A nice surprise was an unexpected turkey dinner delivered by my son and his girlfriend, from the dinner at my daughter's. That was really nice. I love my family!
Anyway, I haven't done much art due to my health and prayers for healing are very appreciated.
Now on to my prayer journal. It is a work in progress and the great thing about a rind binder (mine is a half-size binder) is the ability to add or subtract to it. I find that I have removed some redundancy and added new things.
I have added a printable on Communion from Kenneth Copeland Ministries and my husband and I take it together and even my mom and I do over the phone occasionally. Communion is so much more than just the forgiveness of our sins, it is also partaking in the healing of our bodies which Christ suffered for in the cross. To find out more or to print out the Comminion guide from Kenneth Copeland Ministries, follow the link here. It's free and no need to give email address or anything to get it. Simply print it out. http://api.ning.com/files/omO1m2m8URAaR1uZp0s0fLMoJREb9bukBNxofJoga8bVBXMMzSuNm2X8q58Pvm4D38QJm8Yc1VYCC3pKM8Dyoa*7i-LUhW2d/HowtoReceiveCommunion.pdf
I pray that God blesses you and your family as we move into the Christmas season!

Enchanted Forest Adult Coloring Book
I recently bought the Enchanted Forest coloring book by Johanna Basford and after my surgery last month I wanted something already drawn that I could enjoy just coloring while I recovered.
I started coloring the first page (below) the day of my surgery while I was still under the crazy-making effects of the anesthesia and pain meds. I would color on and off over the next few days, still feeling cross eyed and fuzzy headed from the pain med but a little clearer thinking. I was able to better evaluate my coloring skills and choices and wow, all I can say is this:
Don't color while under the influence of narcotic pain meds. I made some weird choices that I had to try and fix when I was more clear headed, lol. Fortunately, I didn't need those meds too long and was able to switch to Advil.
The second page I did is much better. I did a few Periscope broadcasts as I colored it. It was fun having live feedback
and chatting. Now I'm starting on a new page and will be doing occasional Periscope Color and Chats. You can join in by downloading the Periscope app and following me. Just search for @MHotchkissArt or Michelle Hotchkiss Art and you should be able to find me.
I am using Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils. I can honestly say these hare the best colored pencils ever. The best! I don't use anything to blend them. They blend easily on their own and since they are oil based, they don't have a wax build up that waxed based pencils like Prismacolors have and they are much better made. No issues with broken leads, split casings or sharpening problems like Prismacolors. Polychromos feel a little harder then Prismacolors but they also last longer and hold a point much better. They are not scratchy, they just feel different than Prismacolors that takes a little getting used to. I love them so much I saved up and bought almost every color Polychromos come in.
Do you also enjoy adult coring books? Loads of fun!
I pray for God's blessings on you!

NEW, REVISED AND SHORTER PRAYER JOURNAL VIDEO AND FREE JOURNAL/BINDER INSERT PRINTABLES!
Hello!!
I decided to make a shorter video of my prayer journal/binder/notebook since even I was having a hard time watching the full 40 minutes of the first video. :) This video thing has a learning curve and takes some practice! CLICK ON THE VIDEO HERE!
Anyway, I have also made up two prayer journal inserts that some people may find helpful. I have made these available on Dropbox as Word documents and as PDF's. Just click on the links below.
They are in letter size for those who use a full size binder and can be printed out on both sides of your paper as long as you know how to do that with your printer. They can also be printed out as half size paper (5.5 x 8.5), which fit perfectly into the half planner size that I use, or other planner sizes.
The PDF is great for being able to resize to you whatever your needs are. The printing outcome, such as double sided pages, etc, is totally based on how YOU print these out. Many printers have setting for half pages and double-sided sided printing or booklet printing, but some don't and all printer's are different in their settings to do this.
I apologize for the poor photos examples below of the free inserts. I have printed mine on colored paper and decorated the edges with washi tape.

I pray that you will find praying more intentionally blesses you as much as it has blessed those I am praying for and myself.

Bible Art Journaling: LEAVES: Job 14:7-9
Hello everyone!
I did this quick video a couple weeks ago but didn't get it posted here due to surgery I had.
I love the verses of Job 14:7-9. This chapter is Job talking about how death comes to all men, trees that we think are dead can actually sprout new growth when the rain falls on them.
In Job's day, he was still waiting or the promises of the Messiah to be fulfilled. In our day, we have Christ, who has given us the promise of eternal life. Death is not the end for us. Life will sprout up in us again, through Christ, much like the dead tree that sprouts when it is rained upon. I just love that!
In addition to these verses, this was inspired by a song my nephew, Tanner Hotchkiss, wrote and sings. This song and his album is available on iTunes and another site for android.
Please click here to be taking to the You Tube video where you can hear the song "Leaves" in it's entirety.

New Video: Prayer Journal/Binder Set-Up & How I Use It
I had surgery two weeks ago and didn't do much while recovering, as you can tell from the lack of posting here. It was painful at first and the pain meds made it difficult to focus, so I took a little break.
I did make some cute DIY foiled journaling and scripture cards that I put in my prayer journal. I posted photos of those cards on the Journaling Bible Community Facebook group page and was asked about my prayer journal, so I made a detailed video of it. I tried to make it shorter but I felt that I was leaving out some important things that may be of help to someone so I just decided to go with it and stick with a long video.
Here is an outline:
Reminder: Keep it workable! This is not to lead to condemnation or feelings of failure, however it is a commitment. If you can only commit to praying like this a few times a week, that is better than nothing at all! It does get easier with practice. The hardest part is setting up the prayer binder to what best suits your needs.
Sections:
1) Daily for 2.5 minutes minimum
*Praise/Adoration
*Praying in the Spirit
*Silence/Listening
2) Daily and Rotating Subsections. 2.5 minute time frames.
ME:
*Self-reflection and confession - Daily review of past 24 hrs
Subsections, rotate one section per day, use paperclip to track which subsection to pray that day.
*My Life in Christ
*Relationships
*Work/Art
*Health and Healing
*Emotions and Character
*Misc Prayer Requests
3) Immediate Family - Daily
* General Prayer for all family members, approximately 2.5 minutes:
*true salvation
*Protection
*Health
*Emotions
*Favor
*Wisdom and knowledge
*Relying on God
*Godly self-image
*Character and intregity
*Goals and dreams
*Relationships
**Daily: Subsection for each family member listing specific prayer needs for that person. No set time frame.
4) Daily. 2.5 minute time frame.
*Dire Situations, illnesses and emergencies: ongoing list of people need to be held up in prayer every day.
Paperclip stays on the tab for this section as a reminder to pray every day.
Daily rotating Section:
Sections that I rotate praying for daily. Paperclip used to track which section to pray for that day. 2.5 minute time frame
If there are immediate needs, those are listed in the Dire Situations section.
*Family. Extended family members.
*Friends. Including internet friends
*Church. The body of Christ as a whole as well as local church, missionaries, etc.
*City/State/USA/World. Praying for elected officials, protection, first responders, as well as local and global crises.
Finished!! :)
I have set up my prayer journal following how Kari
Dee of StoneSoupforFive.blogspot.com set her's up. Check out her video:
I have also used idea's from 93 year old Ms. Edith.
Here is the link to Ms. Edith explaining her prayer binder:

Bible Art Journaling: New Mercies Process video
New video posted!
This a short video on the making of this illustration in my Crossway ESV Single Column Journaling bible.
Lamentations 3:21-27
This is how sunrises look in some parts of Alaska in late summer. The fireweed is in full bloom and it's vivid pink and purple flowers glow when the sun shines on them.
Summer is winding down quickly here, the nights are getting cold and it is getting dark earlier every day. However, with the arrival of the darkness also comes the arrival of the stars and the northern lights. We don't see them in the summer because it doesn't get dark.
I am going to miss the sunrises though. In the winter, the sun rises in the south and sets in the south. I have a large mountain to the south and the sun barely makes it high enough in the sky to peek over that mountain, in the darkest days of winter.
Because of this, the dawning sun is always wonderful and appreciative occurance, when we are in the heart of the dark winter.
